2 stroke or 4 - 2006/12/28 22:48 With the cost of the 4 stroke being a bit higher, what is the reasoning behind spending the additional $$$ for a 4 stroke 100 and not a 2 stroke 75 - 80. The 2 stroke has much more HP. Can you hover with a 2 stroke? Is there something else that makes this make more sense? Please offer up opinions or thoughts or the why or what you have experienced. Thanks, Rob Sage

Re:2 stroke or 4 - 2006/12/28 23:05 Four strokes are much stronger on the low end. They build more torque and are better for 3D style flying. Four strokes seem to be less work to setup. Once you get them right, you normally don't need tp play with the adjustments from week to week.

Two stroke run at higher RPMs and build more 'horsepower' they are better for faster flying planes.

Re:2 stroke or 4 - 2006/12/30 16:26 Four Strokes run with lower RPM and more torque permitting you to swing a bigger and/or higher pitch prop. Four strokes are also easier on the fuel consumption than two strokes. You can get increased flying time for the same amount of fuel as compared to a similar sized two stroke. They are also quieter.
I only have one but I like it. A Magnum 91. The more it's runs the better it gets. They do require a little more break in time than a 2 stroke. 90 size and up are the most popular, I have heard of issues with the smaller sizes like 50 and below, but I have no direct experience with them.

When you get into the 1.20 and above sizes for the 2-strokes they can really eat the fuel up quick and at 13 bucks a gallon that can add up. The 4 stroke is probably half the fuel usage at that size.
