Re:Ziroli Corsair Fiberglas & Paint Info - 2007/03/12 19:22
Ok,
So I have never fiberglassed an aircraft model before. Therefore I have been on the internet reading and I have ordered Dave Platt's DVD on Fiberglassing and finishing.
www.daveplattmodels.com , called and talked to Dave this morning. Pretty cool, can't wait to get the DVD's they should be in , in a few days.

I also ordered his epoxy paint DVD. I really like this finsh option.
I will do some experimenting on scrapes and first trials on some of the smaller parts with fiberglassing. I bought some .75 ounce cloth last year.
My computer with all my pictures died yesterday, but I have a back-up of about 98% of it. Need to rebuild the operating system on a new harddirve before I can download some new pictures.

More Soon,

Kev.

Re:Ziroli Corsair - 2007/04/01 23:24 Ok, got my PC back together and downlaoded a bunch of pictures stuck in my camera for a month.

I have been working on the fuselage it's almost ready to fiberglass and the wing is a little farther behind.

This is a shot of the wing belly, making inlets for the wing bolts.

Re:Ziroli Corsair - Filler - 2007/04/01 23:28 I am using a lightweight vinyl filler to smooth out the dents and rough spots. Why? I read several articles over the years and always had used it under monokote.

We shall see.

Re:Ziroli Corsair - Filler - 2007/04/02 04:07 Wing bottom sheeting is still not done close to the gear and leading edge. I also have to add the bulge for the oil coolers.

Lots of pins and ammonia/water for these pieces.

Re:Ziroli Corsair - Tail block shaped - 2007/04/02 04:11 From a square block to a pretty nice tail piece. A coping saw for shape, an exacto knife for carving and a sanding block with 80 grit is all it takes.
The rest I do by eye, alittle at a time. Patience is the key.

Re:Ziroli Corsair - Tail block shaped - 2007/04/02 04:14 I like the look from this angle.
A couple more things and I'll be ready to fiberglass.
