Re:Ziroli Corsair - cowl - 2007/04/02 04:20 I tried on the cowl the other night, MAN this thing is BIG. Sizing up engine(G-62)mounts and adding cowl mounting blocks.
One more balsa piece on the tail and I'll be close. I also have to play with the canopy a little, to decide how to mount it.

Re:Ziroli Corsair - cowl - 2007/04/02 04:25 The cowl needs a little work right out of the box so I sanded down the seams and used some auto red body filler to smooth out the small imperfections.

Re:Ziroli Corsair - cowl block mount - 2007/04/02 04:33 OK, so I've got this nice block of oak all fitted to the top front of the firewall so I can screw the cowl to something solid. I go to epoxy the block in place and I don't have a clamp long enough to hold the block in place. Gald I used 20 minute epoxy, SOOO, I set the fuse on it's nose with the cowl block sitting on my bandsaw table and slid the tail block between two water pipes in the rafters. I had some strings with hooks from when I stored a wing in the same area, so I wrapped those around the tail stabilizer in case the plane shifted off the band saw table. Things can move without explanation, I have three kids and a dog with a big tail, "I dunno" always seems to be to blame.

Re:Ziroli Corsair - Fiberglassing - 2007/05/14 04:03
I have started to fiberglas my wing flap sections, ailerons and wing. The epoxy resin is working out well. It does smell some but it doesn't bother me. My wife is another issue, After I galssed a wing panel tonight in the basement I have been banded to the garage for the remaining larger wing and fuse pieces.

THe epoxy resin worked into the cloth with a brush and then I use those sample creadit cards you get in the mail to scrape the epoxy off the glass. Then a paper towel to blot out any damp spots.

Kev.
